Hudson Yard Terrace in NYC

A couple in Manhattan’s upcoming Hudson Yard were looking to bring more life to their hot terrace 26 floors above the street. They wanted a place to relax and entertain.  A green space with subtle colors and textures that evoked the tropics where they like to vacation. 

The Plan

  • Two spaces were created, one for enjoying dinners and cocktails after work and another more configurable space for relaxing or entertaining.
  • Grouping the plants creates an island of texture and color, and allows them to thrive in the heat.  The island also provides a sense of two spaces on the terrace, as well as a great view from the bedroom window.  
  • Heat and wind tolerant plants like native grasses, Nepeta, Oleander, variegated Yucca  and more are used to create a serene space in a tough environment.
