A couple in Manhattan’s upcoming Hudson Yard were looking to bring more life to their hot terrace 26 floors above the street. They wanted a place to relax and entertain. A green space with subtle colors and textures that evoked the tropics where they like to vacation.
Two spaces were created, one for enjoying dinners and cocktails after work and another more configurable space for relaxing or entertaining.
Grouping the plants creates an island of texture and color, and allows them to thrive in the heat. The island also provides a sense of two spaces on the terrace, as well as a great view from the bedroom window.
Heat and wind tolerant plants like native grasses, Nepeta, Oleander, variegated Yucca and more are used to create a serene space in a tough environment.
A hot terrace was turned into a green oasis high above busy city streets.
